At reciped.io we take privacy very seriously. Our first thought on this is that we can never share information we don't have, so we ask for as little as possible, and try to retain as little as is necessary. Currently the main thing we're asking for is a valid email address. We encourage everyone to sign up for a email address that doesn't actually identify you. This can be used around the web for signing up for various accounts that don't necessarily need your personal information, a recipe site for example. Overall we've found you're much less likely to be compromimsed online if you do this. We encourage you not to use your real name in your handle, name or username.
Why do you want my email address then?Currently the only thing we will use your email for is automated password resets, anything else that may be set up in the future will always be opt in, not automatically opted in, with the option to opt out.
You'll be collecting information for analytics though right? It's our stance that analytics is really just something that's used to avoid talking to your users. Some people love to talk, and some people don't, I'm sure that somewhere there is a subset of people who do love to be followed around (we're on the internet after-all) and while there is nothing wrong with that, that's not our jam. That does mean we will reach out, we will try to talk, and ask questions to try to make the site better.
What about donations? Those go through an accreditted payments processing firm. We don't want that information, and so it'll be processed in such a way that the information never touches our servers.
Why can I read this? Where's the legalese? At some point we will likely have to get a privacy policy drafted by a lawyer, but this is what we have for now.
