Ground Beef

About

Ground beef, minced beef or beef mince is beef that has been finely chopped with a knife or a meat grinder/mincing machine. It is used in many recipes including hamburgers, bolognese sauce, meatloaf, meatballs and kofta.

Source

Ground beef is made from three different pieces of meat, chuck, sirloin or round which is from the shoulder, back or hind quarters (respectively). The meat grinder will force chunks of meat against a steel plate with holes in it where a blade cuts the meat as it is pressed through. It starts with a plate with large holes, and then is passed through a plate with smaller holes the second time.
